FINDING A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

WHEN YOU KNOW BETTER , YOU HAVE TO DO BETTER
— MAYA ANGELOU

The world is changing, and changing fast. You may have realized the sudden uptick in disregard for the status quo. The power once held by some is now being demanded by all. This is by no accident, but through the inspirational energy of the collective, notions by those with a spiritual practice.

Similar to athletes, thought leaders, artists, designers etc., there is space in the mind where you are able to clearly channel missions, pieces of work, or simple ideas. But it’s the ciphering though the chaos that enters our mental framework every second that we have to create a tunnel for the good stuff to come through, stuff that changes the world.

A spiritual practice is there to allow space.

Space for what you might ask? It’s space for you to create the most dope mission your mind can put forward. For most, if you closed your eyes for 3 minutes unbothered, your mind’s voice may run wild with events from the past, for the future, and the task in-between. That voice can be most recognized as the ego. The ego takes in all the media, all the photos, all of the things we see and develops a method of “survival” or relativity in proximity to those topics. An ego untamed is relentless. When applied regularly, a spiritual practice can tame that voice, pushing it to background allowing space for the whispers of magnificence. It just takes practice.

To be direct, our most common mission in practice is simply to raise vibration. It may sound obscure, but everything on earth exists with a vibration. From leafy greens plants to Moscow Mules to Beyonce’s Lemonade to Real Housewives of your favorite city, it all exist on a continuum of vibration. What often times attracts interest, however entertaining a product may be, is the resonance of energy it produces. There is a reason to when we are sad we crave junk food and lethargic media, whereas when we have an amazing workout we tend to gravitate toward more whole foods and quality sleep. So think this, to reach those amazing life changing ideas, you need to raise your internal vibration (mood, energy, etc.) to meet that level of influence.

res·o·nance /ˈrezənəns/ the rate of the vibration projected, will harmonize with and attract back energies with the same resonance. This is where the Law of Attraction comes into play.

7 TIPS TO HELP BUILD A PRACTICE

  1. SILENCE & PRESENCE

There truly is no way around this. Practicing silence, meditation, or mindfulness is truly the gateway toward enlightenment. The resistance we have toward this simple task is truly the ego’s resistance to change. The easiest way, for most, is to start a yoga practice. Allow the mind to be in the body, feeling the release of the body, breathing in the body. From here, advance toward mindful moments (1 min, 5 min, 10 min) and again focus on breath work. I promise you will get there. Like physical fitness, mental fitness has to start somewhere.

  2. ROUTINE

By far the most important part of this process is creating simple and easy routine. I find it best to start and end my day with some sort of automatic process. From 6am - 7am and 9pm - 10 pm, I make an effort to light candles, leave my phone aside, drink water, stretch and meditate. For you, maybe this is just before bed to dim lights, journal, and intuitively care for the body (shower, brush teeth, moisturize, etc.).

  3. DIGGESTIVE FOODS

This is possibly the most obtuse portion of a spiritual practice, but again everything has a vibration, especially food. Eating a whole foods diet based around plants will care for the body more than just aesthetics. Collectively, plant based foods tend to require less time and energy to digest and easier on the gastrointestinal tract allowing less informational internally. However, maybe for you this does not mean cutting out meat all together, but maybe getting more quality meat sources.

  4. PRACITICE KINDNESS/GRATTITUDE

Simple enough, do unto others as you would to yourself. If you want to feel good, show the good in you to others. Practice gratitude for the life you have been allowed to ascertain.

  5. SURROUND YOURSELF

Something you will notice in finding a spiritual practice is your environment and landscape may start to shift. Your vibration is raising, so maybe those Friday night bingers no longer resonate with you as much. Maybe your friend group starts to feel different, it’s okay. Rather than fall to solitude, seek those out who share your new interest. It’s all love.

  6. STUDY

Anything you apply on a regular basis will start to garner more interest from you. Maybe your IG discover page shifts from shirtless bodies to energy body systems, your YouTube searches lean more toward motivational speaking than mukbang videos. It truly is a new world, dive in and absorb what feels interesting. All things wellness, spiritual, embitterment, high performance, and astrology may seem way more interesting, it is you finding your space in the world.

  7. BUILD RITUALS

This is possibly the most advanced method of spiritual practice, but it is as simple as applying a weekly yoga practice or as complicated as following planetary conjunction cycles. Look into your environment and start to find the most optimal way you can benefit from it. Maybe listen to your favorite spiritual podcast every Saturday morning before meditation or prayer, or fast from meat every weekend for 6 weeks at a time to cleanse digestive tracts. For me, following moon phases seemed to intuitively be a time for me focus on goals. New Moon, New Goals. Full Moon, Full Reflection.

Be weird and fret not on what the general population thinks, soon they will be intrigued with the amount of time you truly put in to make yourself the priority in your life.
